For my Personal project I have chosen to follow on from my last project looking at figures and the effect of age, I want to show the difference a face appears through out time by looking at all aged faces from young to old. Focusing on elements of the face such as the eye, nose and mouth, I am wanting to explore and focus upon the changes through the journey of age. Overall I am looking into creating multiple pieces and creating a collage like final outcome made up of the work I produce. I hope to explore different medias and techniques as I progress through this project and I wish to push my own boundaries by stepping out of my comfort zone when using new techniques to capture the detail within age.
Heather Buchanan
I have chosen to look at the artist Heather Buchanan as I have begun looking into the human mouth as part of my own project. I am fascinated in the way Buchanan's painting's have had such a large impact on me and my way of feeling towards painting. When thinking of art I tend to look straight to drawing with pencil or biro but, after looking at some of Buchanan's paintings I am pushed towards creating similar drawings with the use of paint. After looking into two similar pieces by Buchanan, 'Lips 1 Original Painting' and another which I am unknown to its name I am interested in creating my own painting from one of my images using acrylic paint. Using acrylic paint will allow me to layer similar tones, add lighting and shading like Buchanan's paintings, which have worked to capture every detail within the mouth using a rage of brush strokes. Buchanan's use of layering the paint has created glossy expressive brush stokes which has built up the image and allowed it to become a much more realistic painting capturing a range of lines in an abstract manner.
