Graham Dolphin

Graham Dolphin works with a range of media, Dolphins work is made up of drawing, sculpture, sound and video. looking into Dolphins work over the past few year he has explored the issues of fandom and idolatry, most commonly with a crafted approach. Dolphins sculptures have a similar look to such things that you would find when out in a park or a city space, they are crafted with great care and attention and are constructed using materials such as tip-ex, felt-tips, biro, plaster and graphite pencil. Visiting Dolphins exhibition that was healed recently at NGCA I was amazed at his recreation's of famous fan-made monuments.

Bench, 2010

Bench is made up of wood, metal (steel), pen, paint, ink, graphite, biro, tip-ex, wax, paper, cotton thread, shoelace, plectrum and leather. The bench itself is a replica of a wooden bench that is located in Viretta Park, Seattle, sitting at the site of Kurt Cobains suicide in 1994. Building up layers of scratching and mark makings of the words Kurt RIP, Kurt Forever and similar phases with inks, marker pen, tip-ex, and scratches, Dolphin has created a memorial to the deceased pop star.

All that I am (large), 2014

This piece from Dolphins exhibition is made from ink and paper. Dolphin recreates these fan artifacts as changing, living objects of devotion, within this piece Dolphin has layered the names of iconic famous bands in similar but different directions creating a web of letters showing a texed-based pattern of black and white ink.
